- Your old basic insurance only ends once the new insurer has informed it that you are insured without interruption. So you are never without insurance. (Art. 7 para. 5 HIA)
- If you have not paid premiums or cost-sharing and debt enforcement proceedings have been brought against you, you can only switch insurer once everything has been paid. (Art. 64a para. 6 HIA)
- Every insurer must accept you for basic insurance within its area of operation, without a health questionnaire. (Art. 5 let. i KVAG)
- Switching basic insurance does not affect your supplementary insurance. Your old insurer may not cancel it for that reason; it continues until you cancel it yourself. (Art. 7 paras. 7 and 8 HIA)
Step by step
- Choose and join a new insurerCompare the premiums for where you live in the premium calculator and sign up with the new insurer. It must accept you without a health questionnaire.
- Send your notice of cancellation to CONCORDIALetter with your name, address, insurance number and cancellation date, sent by registered mail by 15 November. Must arrive by 30 November.
- Wait for confirmationYour insurance with CONCORDIA only ends once the new insurer confirms that you are insured without interruption (Art. 7 para. 5 HIA).

Where do I send my notice of cancellation to CONCORDIA?

What is the deadline for cancelling basic insurance with CONCORDIA?
To switch on 1 January, your notice must reach CONCORDIA by 30 November (Art. 7 para. 2 HIA). If you are insured in the standard model with a CHF 300 deductible, you can also switch as of 30 June; your notice must then arrive by 31 March.
Can I cancel with CONCORDIA by email?
You must be able to prove that your notice arrived in time. The FOPH therefore recommends a registered letter or A-Post Plus. Check directly with the insurer whether CONCORDIA accepts cancellation by email or via its customer portal.
What happens to my supplementary insurance with CONCORDIA if I cancel my basic insurance?
Nothing: basic and supplementary insurance are separate contracts (Art. 7 paras. 7 and 8 HIA). You cancel supplementary insurance separately under the general terms and conditions of your product; the notice periods are set out there. Only cancel it once the new insurer has confirmed your cover in writing.
Do I have to give CONCORDIA a reason for cancelling?
No. You don’t need a reason and don’t have to answer a health questionnaire; the new insurer must accept you for basic insurance. Your insurance with CONCORDIA ends as soon as the new insurer has confirmed that your coverage continues without interruption.
